Does Hypnosis Actually Work?

So I’ve been asked the question “Does hypnosis actually work?” Well one of the best definitions I’ve heard of hypnosis and hypnotherapy is that it is a single pointed focus of attention. So does meditation, focusing your mind single pointedly, single mindedly on a task, does that work? Does that have an effect? And the answer of course is yes.

So for example if you were preparing for a presentation or a speech of some kind and as you imagined it as you prepared for it you could imagine it going really badly, you’re stumbling over your words, you’re stumbling over the content. Does that work, does that have an effect? Yes it does, it would perhaps make you feel more anxious, more worried about the speech or presentation, you would actually perhaps stumble over your words and maybe make a bit of a mess of it and maybe the night before because you were so worried about it you might not sleep so well.

Of course this works the other way round as well. So if you’re imagining your speech your presentation going really well, everyone coming up to you afterwards, they’re patting you on the back saying what a fantastic job you’ve done, how inspiring you were. Wouldn’t that make you feel really good, you’d feel excited, you’d be really looking forward to it and you’d sleep well the night before.

So the job of a hypnotherapist is to help you to use this natural ability to imagine things to focus your mind, but to do it in such a way that it’s to your benefit, to help you to achieve the goals that you want to achieve.

Now usually in the therapeutic setting that’s started with a relaxation process, you calm your mind and then you focus your mind and that’s it in a nutshell. So what I’d recommend is that you download our free Harmony Hypnosis Meditation App and just check it out. Watch the videos which explain in more depth what hypnosis is and how it works so that you can feel really comfortable about it, because it will only be effective if you feel very comfortable and then listen to the free sessions to do with relaxation and focusing your mind. If you can relate to the style, the approach, then you can take it further.

Hope that answers the question, if you’d lie to know anything else, feel free to ask, I’m happy to help.
